These are networking opportunities for faculty researchers at BGSU and UT to share and engage in research interests.

Networking events include:

Post Traumatic Stress Research Forum.  The event was held on Thursday, September 27, 2007 from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. at The University of Toledo Health Science Campus in the Health Education Building.  See attached for event details.  Faculty researchers from both UT and BGSU presented their research findings on topics related to Post Traumatic Stress.  

Environmental Science Research Forum.  This event took place on Tuesday, October 23, 2007 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Bowling Green State University in the Student Union Room 316.  See attached for event details.  Several BGSU faculty researchers presented their research findings on various environmental issues.

Ohio Valley Crystallography and Biophysics Symposium.  The Enter away message text here.symposium was held on Friday, November 9, 2007 from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at The University of Toledo in the Student Union Room 2584.  See attached for event details. Faculty from the Ohio and Michigan areas were in attendance to observe presentations on "analyzing macromolecular complexes with crystallography and biophysical methods."

Literacy Research Forum.  This event took place on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Holiday Inn French Quarter Depot Track 1 in Perrysburg, Ohio.  See attached for event details.  The following BGSU and UT faculty presented on their literacy research findings:  Dr. Joan Kaderavek (UT), Dr. Timothy Murnen (BGSU), Dr. Richard Oldrieve (BGSU), and Dr. Lori Pakulski (UT).  Click on the presenter's name to view their full presentation.

Disease Prevention Forum.  This event was held on Monday, April 7, 2008 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on The University of Toledo's Health Science Campus in the Health Education Building Room 103. See attached for event details.  Interdisciplinary faculty from BGSU and UT gave presentations on disease prevention research in the following areas: Exercise Science, Genomics, Infectious Disease, Nutrition, and Pharmacology.  Click on the presentation topic to view the full presentation.

Strategy 2: Building an Infrastructure                            top

These are steps taken to reduce barriers to collaboration, improve efficiency, and increase grant and research productivity.

The ORC is planning various research focused events which will serve as communication avenues for faculty researchers and the community. These include:

• Receptions (social/networking opportunities with a research focus);

• Forums (presentations of research);

• Symposia and workshops (education/mentoring which may include outside speakers).

In addition, the ORC has advertised events that have the potential for research collaboration. These can be found on our Calendar of Events.

Educating/Mentoring events included:

Federal Budget Process meeting. The event was held on Thursday, September 6, 2007 from 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. at the The University of Toledo Health Science Campus in the Health Education Building. A second event was held on Wednesday, October 10, 2007 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Bowling Green State University in the Student Union Room 318.  See attached for event details. Dr. Frank Calzonetti, VP for Research and Development at The University of Toledo, presented an overview of the federal support for Research and Development with a particular focus on the budget and priorities of agencies that support academic programs as well as special funding opportunities for faculty members at UT and BGSU.  See attached for the Powerpoint presentation.

Meet the Researchers Informational Meetings.  The events were held on Tuesday, September 11, 2007 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at The University of Toledo and from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Bowling Green State University.  See attached for event details.  Steve Weathers (President & CEO, RGP) and Tasha Hussein Black (Director of Technology, RGP) gave informational presentations on how researchers can understand the potential of their research and commercialize their technologies or products.  See attached for the Powerpoint presentation.

National Science Foundation Faculty Early Career Panel.  The event was held on Thursday, October 11, 2007 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Carlson Library Rooms 1009 and B-59 on The University of Toledo Main Campus and Olscamp Hall Room 109 on the Bowling Green State University Campus.  See attached for event details.  Experienced faculty members from The University of Toledo shared their experiences and advice on receiving the "early career award."

Grant Proposal Writing Workshop.  This workshop took place on Friday, November 30, 2007 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Express in Perrysburg, Ohio.  See attached for event details.  Presentations were given on Community of Science (COS), IRB & IACUC Review Processes (UT and BGSU), Corporate & Foundation Funding, and Evaluation Methods.  Click on the title hyperlinked for the full presentation.

Spring Grant Proposal Writing Workshop.  This workshop took place on Friday, March 21, 2008 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Express Conference Center in Perrysburg, Ohio.  See attached for event details.  Presentations were given on developing an idea and choosing a mentor, finding funding - Community of Science (COS), typical format of a proposal, outlining objectives, outlining the narrative, outlining the proposal evaluation, and outlining your budget.
